Sophia's Story

Sophia was a beautiful, kind, and courageous little girl whose presence left a lasting imprint on everyone she met. She was thoughtful and deeply caring, with a natural ability to make people feel seen, loved, and understood. Sophia was funny, witty, and sassy—she loved to make people smile, and her laugh could light up an entire room.

She had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for life. Sophia adored the color purple, music, dancing, and baking. Her favorite movies were Elf and Good Burger. She loved Christmas, but she loved Valentine’s Day even more. She loved going to the beach, swimming in the pool, and spending time with her dog and the people she loved. She found joy in creating—making bracelets, drawing pictures, and giving thoughtful gifts to the people she loved. She was also a devoted fan of Justin Bieber, whom she met twice, and whose music brought her so much happiness.

Sophia loved school and cherished her teachers. She had a passion for learning and creativity. She learned to play the piano, guitar, and ukulele. She loved performing on stage and embraced every opportunity to express herself.

What made Sophia truly extraordinary was her compassion. Even while facing her own challenges, she cared deeply about others. She often collected and donated items for those in need, including children in the hospital and individuals experiencing homelessness. Her empathy and generosity were simply part of who she was.

Back in 2010 at just two and a half years old, Sophia was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare pediatric brain cancer. She underwent multiple brain surgeries, followed by intensive treatments including chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. After this difficult journey, Sophia was declared cancer-free.

Five years later, in 2016, the cancer returned. Once again, Sophia faced treatment with remarkable strength and resilience, undergoing another brain surgery, radiation, and additional chemotherapy. She persevered through each phase with courage beyond her years and was again declared cancer-free a year later.

In 2020, a routine scan revealed that the cancer had returned, spread, and deemed incurable. Despite this devastating news, Sophia continued to fight with incredible bravery. We pursued further treatments and participated in a clinical trial, holding onto hope and determination every step of the way.

In September 2020, Sophia’s condition worsened. She began experiencing seizures and significant memory loss as the disease progressed. Surrounded by love, Sophia passed away on February 20, 2021, just one month shy of her 13th birthday.

Sophia was a fighter in every sense of the word. She showed strength, resilience, and courage until her very last breath. But her story is so much more than her battle with cancer.

Sophia believed deeply in kindness, in helping others, and in doing what is right. She lived her life with an open heart, embracing joy, love, and connection in the most genuine and beautiful ways.

Her legacy is one of compassion, courage, and unconditional love—and it continues to inspire everything we do.
